This 1956 Ford Thunderbird is a beautifully restored baby bird complete with desirable creature comforts and both convertible tops! When the Ford Motor Company debuted its new flagship model in 1955, the Thunderbird was a true personal luxury car. Driving Ford to develop its new T-Bird was the notion that it needed a sporty two-seater to compete with Chevy's Corvette. However, Ford's new two-seat Thunderbird however was thought as offering even more luxury than the Corvette giving Thunderbird owners an even greater sense of personal luxury and style. This idea was further solidified by the fact that many Hollywood stars were enamored by the elegant design. On November 2, 1955, the 1956 Thunderbird was introduced by the public with minor stylistic changes likely due to the smashing success of the '55 models. Most of the biggest changes to the '56 T-Birds were adjustments made in response to customer feedback. For example, the spare tire was moved to a rear mounted continental kit in 1956 because the spare tire was taking up too much trunk space in 1955. Similarly, a porthole was added to the accessory hardtop in '56 because the solid '55 hardtops created troubling blind spots. Likewise, wind wings were added in 1956 to reduce wind inside the passenger compartment. 1956 also marked the first time Ford equipped its passenger vehicles with 12 volt electrical systems which provided faster startups and more reliable electrical service across the entire vehicle. Under the hood on this '56 TBird is a 312 Cubic Inch V8 engine with an upgraded Single 4 Barrel Carburetor. The 312 V8 is hooked up to an Automatic Transmission ensuring that just about any one can take this baby bird for a spin around the block. This Thunderbird is a nicely-optioned example! With power steering getting in and out of those tight spaces at car shows is a breeze and general driving is much more enjoyable. Vintage Air Conditioning was also added so that you can stay cool even on the hottest summer days. Riding on wide whitewall radial tires with full wheel covers, this 1956 Thunderbird has a classic look and fantastic ride. The rear-mounted Continental Kit is painted white which provides a nice complement to the exterior look of the car. The exterior has been refinished in a beautiful Coral Mist giving the car an iconic 50s appearance. This Thunderbird also comes with both convertible tops, a white porthole hardtop and white vinyl soft top. The interior on this T-Bird is spectacular! The bench seat and door panels have been reupholstered in a beautiful Black and White Vinyl that complements the look of the car. The dash and steering wheel are in nice shape as well and have a nice stock look. The dash is equipped with a 150 MPH speedometer, 5,00 RPM tachometer, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, clock and Town & Country AM radio. The Vintage Air Conditioning unit is mounted neatly under the dash as well.
