2.5L Inline 6 - 4 Speed Manual w/ OD - P.F.D.B. - Single Family Owners Since New

This 1976 Triumph TR6 Convertible is a gorgeous imported British sports car that comes with loads of paperwork and has been in the same family since it was new! With history dating back to the late 19th Century, Triumph began as a producer of bicycles and at the turn of the 20th Century, the company began producing motorcycles. Then in the early 1920s, Triumph began producing its very first 4-wheeled automobile. While Triumph experienced some ups and downs in the lead up to World War II, including being placed into receivership during the Great Depression, it managed to prevail though with several changes in ownership, first in November 1944 to Standard Motor Company and again in 1960 to Leyland Motors Ltd. In the early 50s, Standard Motor Co. decided to utilize the Triumph nameplate for its sporting car line and reserving the saloon-type cars for Standard. Triumph's TR model line debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1953 and the resulting TR2 cars were peppy, sporty racer-inspired roadsters that began to gain a modest following. As the years progressed, Triumph revised its sports car line with the TR3 and TR4 cars with each generation growing in performance output and relative popularity. In January 1969, Triumph introduced the TR6 with a brand new, modern-looking body and these cars took the United States' market by storm. In fact, over 90% of the TR6s produced were built for the US market and this is especially noteworthy since the TR6 was the best-selling TR is the car's history. Arguably, the TR6 is the "last great British roadster" that sported a big, great-sounding 6 cylinder engine along with superbly designed body, both inside and out. For this reason, the TR6 has been and is likely to continue to be a desirable collector's item that looks great parked in your garage and is a total blast to drive on a nice summer day! This particular TR6 comes to us with heaps of paperwork including the original Window Sticker after spending its entire life under the stewardship of the car's original owner and his family. Under the bonnet of this '76 TR6 is a 2.5 Liter Overhead Valve Inline 6 that is fed by a pair of Zenith-Stromberg single barrel carburetors that together were said to have produced over 100 horsepower when new. The 2.5L straight 6 is mated to a close ratio 4 speed synchromesh manual transmission with overdrive that makes this sporty little import an easy and fun car to drive! 4-Wheel independent suspension also helps ensure for a smooth ride whether cruising or taking a tight curve. With power front disc brakes, bringing this nearly 2,300 pound convertible to a complete stop is a total breeze and the overall driving experience is much improved. A rack and pinion steering box is another welcome inclusion on this Triumph TR6 since it makes squeezing into a tight parking space easy. Riding on a set of redline radial tires mounted on Rally-style steel wheels with polished trim rings, this 1976 Triumph has a fantastic look and even better ride. The black vinyl top is easily raised and lowered by hand and remains in wonderful shape. Additionally, this 1976 TR6 Convertible comes with a color-matched removable hardtop that provides a great closed car look and feel. The chrome brightwork around the exterior of this single-family owned TR6 is in fantastic shape as well and features a gorgeous boot-mounted luggage rack for even more storage capacity. The body of this Triumph has been correctly refinished in British Racing Green paint, completing the exterior look of this wonderful sports car. The interior of this 1976 Triumph TR6 Convertible is gorgeous! The reclining bucket seats are correctly upholstered in Beige "leathercloth" just how this car came back in 1976. The matching moulded pile carpeting, color-matched door panels, walnut trimmed dash, and padded-rim steering wheel all remain in fantastic condition and retain a nice stock appearance. A complete set of Smiths Instrumentation is incorporated in the Walnut trimmed dash and includes a 140 MPH speedometer, 7,000 RPM tachometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, volt gauge, and fuel gauge, along with several indicator lights and controls for the lights and wipers. The dash is finished off with a locking glovebox, defroster/heater controls, engine choke control, and an upgraded Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette entertainment system so that you can listen to all of your tunes while cruising down the road. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're adding to your existing collection of British sports cars, this 1976 Triumph TR6 Convertible would make an excellent choice.
