This 1951 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup Truck is an absolutely gorgeous, all steel example with a superb-looking stock appearance! Dating back to 1918, Chevrolet has had a long and storied history and reputation for producing some of the most iconic American-made pickup trucks. In the early years, Chevy's pickup trucks were commercial vehicles used by professionals to haul all sorts of commercial goods and equipment. From its start in 1918 through the early 1940s, Chevrolet continued to produce fantastic trucks but American automotive production shut down due to World War II with America's automakers' production capacity being shifted entirely to assist with the War effort. After the conclusion of the War, Chevrolet along with its American counterparts resumed production in 1946, largely re-using pre-war designs that were re-badged as 1946 models. However, in 1947, Chevrolet introduced its newly redesigned truck models to the market under the "Advanced-Design" moniker. The new Advanced Design trucks were more stylish and the interior layout began to place a greater focus on driver comfort. This of course was sign that customers were beginning to drive their trucks for uses besides traditional work, and that customers were turning to their pickup trucks for "daily driving." These new-look Chevy trucks were a huge hit with American consumers and the GM marque more than a quarter million new pickup trucks, and this early success was not just a "flash in the pan" but rather a sign of the good times that would follow. Even though the Advance-Design trucks largely retained a similar design motif during the remainder of the 40s and into the early 1950s, the subtle year-to-year refinements seemed to satisfy Chevrolet's growing customer base and consumers continued purchasing Advance Design trucks in droves. Debuting in January 1951, the 1951 model year light-duty trucks saw modest updates including the addition of vent windows along with the removal of the left side cowl ventilator that made for a more streamlined look. Across its entire lighter duty truck lines, Chevrolet produced over 350,000 trucks and while that number was staggering for the time, today, one must question the survival rate of these trucks as they were primarily "used and abused," which makes it difficult to find nice clean stock examples such as this particular example. Under the hood on this '51 Chevy Pickup is an upgraded 235 cubic inch "Thriftmaster" Inline 6 cylinder engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor. The smooth 235 straight 6 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted with a column-mounted "3-on-the-tree" shifter. Exhaust exits the mighty 6 cylinder power plant via a a dual exhaust setup that generates a terrific throaty sound out of the rear tailpipes.
